Feb 09 – Establish Me!

“Uphold my steps in Your paths, that my footsteps may not slip. I have called upon You, for You will hear me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, and hear my speech.” (Psalm 17:5–6)

When we come and sit in God’s presence, prayer accomplishes a glorious work within us: God establishes us, strengthens us, and confirms us in righteousness. He imparts courage and strength to our inner being and helps us grow from holiness to greater holiness.

We are saved by faith in Jesus Christ. Our sins are washed away by the blood of Jesus. Yet after salvation, it is absolutely essential that our lives be purified and firmly established. The more we humble ourselves before God, surrender ourselves in prayer, and yield to Him, the more stable and steadfast our spiritual life becomes.

Scripture says: “To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (Revelation 1:6)

If we neglect the small sins we commit and fail to correct them promptly, they can suddenly lead us into a great fall. We must be cleansed from fleshly deeds. We must be purified from idle words. We must be cleansed from lust-filled looks.

We live in an unclean world. Human intentions, actions, and thoughts are all tainted by impurity. If we are to preserve holiness in the midst of such a world, how deeply we must humble ourselves in God’s presence and willingly submit to His cleansing! It is vital that we depend on the Lord and seek the help of the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, pray. We may hide our faults and failures from people, but how can we hide them from the Lord? How can we conceal anything from the Holy Spirit? David cried out, “Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults.” (Psalm 19:12)

Children of God, you must be purified and shine like refined gold. You must follow the Lord steadily, without slipping and falling again and again. If you become warriors of prayer, personal prayer will not only uphold you—it will firmly establish you.

Verse for further meditation: “Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:9-11)
