Feb 08 – Power Is Needed!
“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49)
Today, everywhere we look, we see God’s children longing for power, waiting for anointing, and desiring to be filled with fresh strength. We sing, “We need power, O God—give us power, O God. We need it today, O God—give it now, O God.”
Yes, we truly need power. We need power to overcome sin. We need power to subdue the enemy. We need power to overcome the world and the flesh. We need power to walk uprightly and victoriously as Christians. This power is not human strength; it is power from on high. It is power that comes from the Holy Spirit.
The psalmist declares clearly and firmly, “God has spoken once, twice I have heard this: that power belongs to God.” (Psalm 62:11)
Yes, all power is found in God. Scripture says, “When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, ‘I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.’” (Genesis 17:1)
Our God is the Almighty God. He is powerful to do exceedingly great things beyond our searching, and wondrous works beyond our counting. There is nothing too hard for Him.
When you pray, the Lord gives you that power. He fills you with strength from on high. When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you inherit the mighty power of the Most High God.
Do you have a hunger and thirst for power— for power from on high, for divine strength, for anointing? Do you come into God’s presence longing and expecting? Do you fast and pray for that power? Do you desire to be crowned with the gifts of the Spirit?
Waiting on the Lord brings fresh strength into our lives. It is essential that we wait until we are endued with power from on high. King David, who waited on the Lord, declared: “But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil. My eye also has seen my desire on my enemies; my ears hear my desire on the wicked who rise up against me.” (Psalm 92:10–11). After this prayer, David experienced victory in every area of his life.
Children of God, the Lord is eager to strengthen you and fill you with His power. To wait in His presence, to pray in solitude, and to receive that strength—this is now in your hands.
Verse for further meditation: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)
