Feb 03 – Have Fellowship!
“That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.” (1 John 1:3)
One of the most beautiful aspects of personal prayer is joyful fellowship with God—delighting in a loving relationship with Him. Many people come into God’s presence during prayer with a long list of needs. They sit before Him and ask for countless things.
But the Lord primarily desires our love. He longs for a joyful relationship with us. He wants to have fellowship with us. Through prayer, we are called to minister to the Lord—to love Him as our loving God. First and foremost, we are to meet God’s desire. Yes, that desire is our fellowship with Him and our worship before Him.
From the very beginning, when God created the first man, He created him in an environment where he could have fellowship with God. God Himself desired fellowship with man and came seeking him every day in the cool of the day.
The Bible says: “And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.” (Genesis 3:8). The Lord God came to have fellowship with Adam and Eve.
When a person has fellowship with God, joy fills the heart. An indescribable inner satisfaction arises and brings peace to the soul. Yes, the Lord eagerly desires our fellowship, our personal prayer time, and our love. That is why He created us in His own image and according to His likeness.
Today, many people are constantly on the move—and always busy. They are consumed with solving their problems and struggles. They run all day thinking, ‘I must meet this or that person, I must clear this debt, I must try for a new job’. But they do not sit at the feet of the Lord to have fellowship with Him.
As a result, they lose their joy. Problems begin to overpower them. Struggles surround them. Various pressures enter their lives. The Bible says: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
Children of God, when you seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and when you have fellowship with Him, the Lord will add everything else to you and bless you abundantly.
Verse for further meditation: “Like an apple tree among the trees of the woods, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down in his shade with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.” (Song of Solomon 2:3)
