Mar 31 – THE FALLEN AXE !
“But as one was cutting down a tree, the iron axe head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, “Alas, master! For it was borrowed” (2 Kings 6:5).
In the Scripture we read about the seven wonders of Elijah and the fourteen wonders of Elisha. The above verse is in the context of the seventh wonder of Elisha. Why God does wonders and signs and why are they captured in the Scripture? The Scripture says: “but these are written that you may believe that-/ Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name” (John 20:31).
In the days of Elisha, the children of Prophet wanted to build houses for themselves. And one of them was cutting the tree, his axe fell into the deep waters of the river Jordan. And he cried out: “Alas, master! For it was borrowed”.
When something is borrowed, it has to be used for intended purpose and returned to its owner. Even your bodies are borrowed from the Lord. Therefore, you are obliged to preserve with all holiness. Some permit themselves and their bodies into lusts and sins, and stain their spirit, soul and body. How can you give account to the Lord, about your body?
The Scripture says: “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).
Elisha, the servant of God asked the son of Prophet as to where the axe fell. You need to examine yourselves and understand as to where you fell from your holiness. Where exactly did you slip away in your life? What kind of sin has taken hold of you? And what exactly is your current standing?
Examine yourselves today. Like David, you should pray: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties: And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23-24). Children of God, return to your former love of God, and to your former zeal in prayer life. The Lord is gracious to lift you up and to establish you again in holiness.
Verse for further meditation: “Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit” (Psalm 51:12).
