Mar 21 – HE BECAME LIKE US !
“Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same” (Hebrews 2:14).
Our Lord is in Spirit. He who is in Spirit, came down to earth and was born as an infant, in flesh and blood. How wonderful it is to know this! What a great sacrifice it is that the eternal and everlasting Son of God, took the form of perishable human, and walked on the face of the earth!!
There was a White man name John Howard Griffin, who had undue love and compassion over the Black people. He believed in his heart, that only if he becomes one among the Blacks, can he really gain them for Christ, who were living their lives as they pleased. Therefore, he spent considerable time and effort in making his skin look black like that of the Negroes. He had to apply various strong lotions on his body, to change his skin colour, and had to lie down under the scorching sun for many days. He also had to apply a tar-like ointment on his skin, to make it black. But he
While his new skin colour was a great in helping him get closer to the Black people, he was tormented by the racist behaviour of the White people. He was denied entry in public transport vehicles driven by the White. But he tolerated all those humiliations, because of the love he had for the Black people.
The act of John Howard Griffin pales in comparison to the extreme sacrifice of our Lord who took the form of a human being, for our sakes. Just meditate on the afflictions and torments that He had to undergo on our behalf, for our sins and iniquities. The Scripture clearly tells us: “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5).
He had to endure the whip lashes, the crown of thorns, to be nailed on the Cross and to shed even the last drop of His blood, all because of our sins and iniquities.
The Scripture says: “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15). Children of God, will you not remember with a deep sense of gratitude and praise the creator of heaven and earth, who became like one of us and gave up His life for our sake!!
Verse for further meditation: “He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage” (Hebrews 2:14-15).
