Mar 20 – HE WILL SET YOU IN A BROAD PLACE !
“Indeed, He would have brought you out of dire distress, Into a broad place where there is no restraint; And what is set on your table would be full of richness” (Job 36:16).
No one in this world, would like to be in distress. If you continue to have distress in career, distress in family or have a financial distress, you will indeed be disheartened. But the Lord wants to set you in a broad place.
May be you are living in rented houses for so many years. How distressing it is to live within the constraints placed by the landlords! They may speak harsh words even for small issues. They may ask you put off lights very early in the night time. Or the water supply may be insufficient. They may increase the rent year on year. You may be living amidst such restraints.
But the Lord sees your distresses and restraints. The Israelites were under the shackles of bondage in Egypt, and had to go through great sufferings. Egyptians lorded over them, as harsh task masters. They became weary in their hearts and body by preparing clay and making bricks all through the day and night.
They cried unto the Lord in their distress, and the Lord heard their cry. And the Lord said: “I have surely seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows” (Exodus 3:7). The Lord heard their cry, delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and brought them to a good and large land, a land flowing with milk and honey. To a land of mountains and valleys, where He caused the rain to come down for them – the former rain and the latter rain.
Whatever is distressing you today, will soon be changed completely. Do not become weary in your heart in your problems, in your lacks or when you are treated harshly by others. Call out to God in your distress and He shall deliver you.
The Psalmist says: “Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Have mercy on me, and hear my prayer” (Psalm 4:1). The Lord will surely hear your petitions.
Children of God, the Lord will set you in a good and large place, so that you can be a blessing to many others. He will honour and exalt you. “May the LORD God of your fathers make you a thousand times more numerous than you are, and bless you as He has promised you!” (Deuteronomy 1:11).
Verse for further meditation: “Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us, The years in which we have seen evil” (Psalm 90:15).
