Mar 05 – HE WILL ENLIGHTEN !
“For You will light my lamp; The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness” (Psalm 18:28)
Here we see David earnestly praying to the Lord to light up his lamp, to enlighten his darkness and for his life to be a blessing for others. This is indeed a wonderful prayer!
Whenever big factories are inaugurated by the President or by a Minister of Government, they light up a lamp, which is a symbol of auspicious beginning. Since light has the power to dispel darkness, it is considered as a sign of blessing.
Man has invented many types of lamps to remove darkness. There are lamps which burn with the fat of animals. We have candles. We have kerosene-lamps. And now in the current times, we have electric lamps to dispel darkness and to give us light.
In the beginning, God decided to light up the whole world. When He saw that the earth was without form, and void; and darkness on the face of the deep, God said: “Let there be light”. The sun, moon and the stars shone so brightly. They dispelled the darkness of the world and gave out a glorious light.
But in the key verse of the day, David is praying for the Lord to light up his lamp. What lamp does he refer to? It is none other than his mind: which is the inner lamp. When the darkness of sin surrounds your soul, your life is also surrounded by gloom and obscurity. And the darkness of failure, darkness of curse, darkness of the evil spirits grips your heart.
Whoever lives in sin and iniquity, he departs from the Lord – the sun of righteousness, and darkness takes hold of him. The Scripture says: “But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2)
Indeed, when you block out the Lord – the sun of righteousness, with your sins and iniquities, darkness surrounds you and prevents the light of God to shine on your lives. Children of God, when you pray to the Lord to light up your lamp, He will surely light up your lamp and enlighten your life.
Verse for further meditation: “The spirit of a man is the lamp of the LORD, Searching all the inner depths of his heart” (Proverbs 20:27).
