Mar 04 – HE WILL DRIVE OUT !

“then the LORD will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will dispossess greater and mightier nations than yourselves” (Deuteronomy 11:23).

The Lord advocates and pleads for you. He fights on your behalf. He also drives out all the nations or people groups that are opposing you. And on top of all these, He also strengthens you and makes you mighty so as to chase those nations or people groups that are against you.

Before the Israelites could inherit the land of Canaan, it was the dwelling place of many ethnic groups, their kings and their armies. And if Israelites had to take possession of that land flowing with milk and honey, they had to first win over those kings and drive out those people.

The Scripture identifies the various ethnicities in that land. In Deuteronomy, chapter 7, we read: “When the LORD your God brings you into the land which you go to possess, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you, and when the LORD your God delivers them over to you, you shall conquer them and utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them” (Deuteronomy 7:1-2). There is also a spiritual meaning to these seven groups of people. In essence, all these groups are enemies who oppose God. You need not be afraid of them. The Lord will drive them away. Not only that. He will also give you the strength to chase them away

Flesh is the chief among the enemies of God’s people. The lust and its relationships join together with flesh, and they fight against your spiritual life. There are many who fail, go astray and are unable to claim the promises of God, because of their lust of the flesh.

May be you are plodding through life without any victory. Take heart, that our Lord wants to grant you victory. The Lord will grant you the grace to overcome the world, the flesh and its lusts and over Satan. Hold on firmly to the Lord who gives you the victory, that you may see with the eyes of faith, all the schemes of the enemies driven away from you.

Again, who are the peoples or nations mentioned in the key verse of the day. The Israelites who were sent to spy out the land said: “There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants)” (Numbers 13:33). Though these enemies were strong and arrogant, the Lord drove out all those nations from before the Israelites. Children of God, the Lord will do great things in your life also.

Verse for further meditation: “No man shall be able to stand against you; the LORD your God will put the dread of you and the fear of you upon all the land where you tread, just as He has said to you” (Deuteronomy 11:25)
