Feb 06 – MAKES ME GREAT!

“Your gentleness has made me great” (Psalm 18: 35)

Always relying on God, was the unique characteristic of King David. He never prided on his strength or wisdom, in order to be exalted. In this verse, we see him humbling himself and declaring that it is the kindness or favour of the Lord that will make him great. Indeed, only the kindness of the Lord can make a person great.

Some people believe they can achieve greatness by their sharp intellect. Some others believe that they can become great political leaders because of their oratorical skills. Yet others believe they will be lifted up by their own community members. But none of them will be able to achieve a position of eminence through their own efforts.

But when you consider the elevation granted by the Lord, you will realize the loving kindness of God in your life. The Lord graciously places His kindness upon a person, and through that favour He makes the person prosperous in all his ways. The blessing of the Lord is revealed through such prosperity and accomplishments.

When the Lord loves and places His favour upon a person, it surrounds him until the very end. You may have had many occasions in your life, where you could have gone astray, or to backslide and fall into sin. What is the reason for the Lord protecting you in all those occasions and drawing you unto Himself? It is none other than the sheer kindness of the Lord. The Lord says: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore, with lovingkindness I have drawn you” (Jeremiah 31: 3).

Think of all the loving kindnesses of the Lord, thank Him from the bottom of your hearts and praise Him. It is His loving kindness that surrounds you and it is His favour that exalts you, and draws you unto Himself.

When Prophet Zechariah ponders about the goodness of the Lord, he praises God, saying: “how great is God’s goodness And how great His beauty!” (Zechariah 9: 17). Children of God, cling on to the loving kindness of God and that will bring you exaltation in your life.

Verse for further meditation: “His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises…” (2 Peter 1: 3,4).
