Dec 31 – THE LORD WILL DO WONDERS !

“And Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” (Joshua 3:5)

You should ideally spend the last days of the year, in examining yourselves and to set your life in order. It is also the time for you to prepare yourselves for the new year, and is the time to submit yourself at the hand of God.

The Lord desires to bless you in a special manner in the new year, and wants to go before you. He wants to fill every day of the new year with His wonders. And you should prepare and sanctify yourselves in order to be worthy to receive His blessings and wonders.

Meditate on what Joshua says in the verse for the day: “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.” (Joshua 3:5). What wonders will He do in their midst? What miracles did the Israelites need at that point in time? In order for them to enter the land of Canaan, they first had to cross the River Jordan. Jordan is a great and furious river with turbulent waters, which overflows all its banks during the whole time of harvest. The wild force of the waters is so strong that it can sweep away even mighty soldiers, in its flow. When such is the case, how can the women and children get across that river to enter the land of Canaan?

But when the Israelites sanctified themselves, the Lord was willing to perform wonders for them. As soon as the priests placed the soles in the waters of Jordan, the waters which came down from upstream stood still and rose in a heap. Thus, the waters were stopped, creating a way for the Israelites to cross over safely.

When Psalmist David pondered this, he wanted to ask a question to River Jordan. “What ails you, O sea, that you fled? O Jordan, that you turned back?” (Psalm 114:5,6). Now imagine what would have been the response of River Jordan to that question! May be River would have responded saying: “How can I not give way to the children of God? They have placed their faith in the God who created me and who controls me. It’s my desire and pleasure that the children of God should inherit the land of Canaan.”

Dear children of God, He is willing to perform mighty wonders in your life, when you sanctify yourselves. Therefore, sanctify yourselves today and you will see so manifold blessings from the hand of God in the New Year.
