Dec 27 – WHAT KIND OF PERSON IS THE LORD?

“And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature.” (Luke 19:3)

Many people express differing public opinions to the question: ‘what kind of person is the Lord?’. But internally they will have a reason for holding such a view about the Lord. A minister of God once remarked about Lord that: “He is like a high-voltage electric current. You should work along with Him. And if you were to be indifferent to Him, the electric current will throw you out”. The many losses and bitter experiences in his life, were the reason for that minister to hold such a view of God.

Another person said: “The moment I think of God, I suffer from a guilty conscience. I am terribly afraid of what He will do to me after my death. I think of myself as a weak person to stand in His presence”. This view of God, is based on his sins, which caused the guilt in him. Because of this, he was not able to make any progress.

There was another person, who gets uncontrollably angry at the mention of God. He always questioned: “if there is a God, why should there be so much of blood shedding, or unexplained deaths, or terrible wars?”. It was because he lost his parents in a war, while he was very young, which had deeply impacted him. Those deep hurts had prevented him from knowing God as his personal saviour.

In the Scripture reading of the day, we see Zacchaeus finding ways to know who Jesus was. And because he was touched by the love of Jesus, he underwent a great transformation. He was fully prepared to make any sacrifice in order to welcome Jesus into his heart and to his house. He determined in his heart to restore fourfold for anything that he gained through false means. Since the Lord is holy, he was keen on being holy in his life.

Do you have Lord Jesus Christ as your creator, as a loving friend and as the lover of your soul? Do you love Him with all your heart? The author of Hebrews writes: “for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6).

Dear children of God, develop a good understanding of who God is and live a life pleasing to Him. Know His characteristics and live in the fear of God. When you search for Him, He will certainly grant what you seek.

Verse for further meditation: “And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me.” (John 12:45 & John 14:9).
