Dec 24 – THE LORD WILL BE GREAT !
“He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest” (Luke 1:32)
The Lord is great and He alone is worthy of all honour and glory. He is matchless and incomparable.
There was once a great boxing champion, who conquered over all his contestants. When everyone applauded and shouted out in praise of him, he was filled with ego and pride. And he even said: ‘I have now conquered all the mighty men of the world. If there is a God, let Him come and fight with me. I will conquer Him also and prove that I am greater than God’.
After making such a declaration, he looked toward the sky, as though challenging God. And suddenly out of nowhere, a hornet appeared over his head and stung him on his bald head. As the poison from the hornet’s sting got into him, he collapsed on the stage. And within minutes, he died in front of the whole audience.
God is great and no one can stand against Him. The Scripture poses the following question: “But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” (Romans 9:20). God is greater than any person, any created thing, any government or lordship.
When you read the Book of Hebrews, you will find the description of God’s greatness over everyone, in each chapter. The first chapter talks about how the Lord is greater than the angels of God. “But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says: “Let all the angels of God worship Him.” (Hebrews 1:6). While the angels of God are mighty, our God is the greatest.
The third chapter of Hebrews, talks about how the Lord is greater than Moses. While the commandments obtained by Moses, brought the Israelites into bondage, but the Lord’s covenant of grace, delivered them from all their bondages (Hebrews 3:2,3).
Dear children of God, the Lord is great and He alone is worthy of all honour and glory. Therefore, praise and honour Him.
Verse for further meditation: “looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:13)
