Dec 23 – LAMP OF THE LORD !

“The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, Searching all the inner depths of his heart.” (Proverbs 20:27)

How nice and wonderful is the phrase ‘Lamp of the Lord’! God has given you a lamp, which shines ever so brightly in darkness. It shows you the way that you should walk in. Now what is that lamp? The spirit of man is that lamp given by God.

Man has spirit and soul and these reside in his body. Even when the body dies, the spirit and soul of man continues to live, as they are eternal and without end.

It is through the body that you connect with this world. God has given the five senses in you, for you to be so connected with the world. But God has given you the spirit, as the lamp, for you to be connected with the spiritual realm. It is only through this indwelling spirit that you are able to discern what is good and what is evil and to understand the will of God in your life.

Many times, when you take wrong decisions, there is a trembling in your spirit. And when you commit a wrong deed, there is a wailing in your conscience, and you are afflicted with a guilty feeling. When you see some persons, there is an internal warning for danger. You may wonder as to what is the reason for all of these. The spirit of man – which is the lamp of God, is the reason for all of these.

When the spirit of man is joined with the Spirit of God, He will guide you wonderfully as per His will. The Holy Spirit works in your life, by joining with your spirit. Our Lord Jesus said: “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). Therefore, the Spirt of Truth, combines with your spirit and teaches you clearly as to what is the Truth and the path that you should choose. The Scripture says: “The Holy Spirit, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you” (John 14:26).

Dear children of God, are you perturbed and anxious today? Are you perplexed and confused about the path that you should pursue? Or unable to take an important decision in your life? Cling on to the Holy Spirit. You will then realize that He is leading you according to God’s will. Make good use of the lamp that God has given you, the lamp that shines so brightly in darkness and gloom. And that lamp will lead you in the right way.

Verse for further meditation: “But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.” (1 John 2:27)
