Nov 03 – CROWN OF GLORY
“She will place on your head an ornament of grace” (Proverbs 4:9)
A crown is placed on the head of the King. Royal crown is normally is adorned with gold, diamonds, pearls and precious stones. Such crown makes it clear to all that person wearing is the One who rules and reigns over the entire kingdom. That is the symbol of royalty and sovereignty, and indicates the power, authority and might over all.
While all this is true, all the worldly crowns will become irrelevant over a period of time. If you were to give to a goldsmith, he would convert it back to a lump of gold, in a few minutes. It is also true, that a King conquers a kingdom, will snatch it away from its present owner. And it is so ironic that so many people lay down their lives in the battle field, to obtain such perishable crowns.
But the Scripture speaks about invisible crowns, such as crown of grace, crown of tender mercies and crown of loving kindness (Psalm 103:4). It talks about the crown of glory and crown of honour. (Hebrews 2:7) These crowns are much more excellent and greater than the worldly and perishable crowns. Apostle Paul writes of these crowns as follows: “And everyone who competes for the prizeis temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown”. (1 Corinthians 9:25)
The Lord crowns you with His grace and mercies. With glory and honour. What a great privilege it is to be called the sons and daughters of the King of Kings. Some consider the high degrees obtained through education as their crown. Some others consider their profession as a doctor, or an engineer or a lawyer as their crown. And politicians consider their positions as member of legislative assembly or member of parliament, as their crown.
But for the children of God, the only true crown is the Anointing of the Holy Spirit. While King David, was able to get so many worldly crowns, he considered only the Anointing of the Holy Spirit as the most excellent crown. He declares in Psalm 92, verse 10: “But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox;I have been anointed with fresh oil”.
It is through this anointing, that we are endowed with the power from on high. The Holy Spirit starts residing within your heart, and you are filled with His power and glory. And no one can take it away from you. It is only because of such anointing, that the gifts of the Spirit operate in our lives, and the sweet fruits of the Spirit are revealed. And it is the anointing of the Holy Spirit that differentiates you from others in this world.
Verse for further meditation: You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. (Psalm 23:5)
