Sep 10 – CREATE, O GOD!

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” (Psalms 51:10).

Look at how David looks up to the God of creation and pleads, “Create in me a new heart, O God.” God created the sun and the moon. He created both the visible and the invisible ones. Above all these things, how essential it is to create a new heart in a man!

“Elohim” is another name to our God. The word “Elohim” gives the meaning ‘God of creation.’ In the beginning, Elohim created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). God created everything with His Word and David looks at everything created by God. All things created by God look good. He also looks up to his heart.

The heart of man remains deceitful, wicked and dirty. Despite God coming forward to cleanse the man, his heart keeps on longing for the lusts. Instead of doing the good things, it continues to do unwanted things. There is a law of sin in a man’s heart and it is one to fight against holiness. It prevents man from doing good things and draws him towards evil things.

That is why the Psalmist prays with tears, ‘Lord, you created the whole world so nicely, but why didn’t you create a clean heart in me? Why don’t you create a holy heart in me that would stay away from the evil and lean upon you alone?”

If at all there is a rare thing to see in this world, it is nothing but a clean heart. The Holy Spirit is the special thing that God has given you to keep it clean. You have been washed by the blood of Jesus and cleansed by the Scripture. At the same time, you receive a clean heart through the Holy Spirit. Your heart becomes holy.

In the church of God at Corinth, many people remained unrighteous, fornicators, adulterers, thieves and greedy. But, when they called upon God, He was gracious to create a new heart in them.

Dear children of God, the Holy Spirit alone is powerful to create a clean heart in you. Pray, seek and receive it.

To meditate: “….when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13).
