AUG 30 – OUR EYES ARE UPON YOU!

“For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon you” (II Chronicles 20:12).

Jehoshaphat was one of the kings of Judah. He is a king who loved God and had placed his faith upon Him. When the people of Ammon and some others beside the Ammonites suddenly rose against him and came to war, he did not know what to do. His heart began to tremble.

But, he immediately began to look up to God and pray. “There they are, rewarding us by coming to throw us out of your possession which you have given us to inherit. O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon you” (II Chronicles 20:11, 12).

He did not stop with just looking up to God but also proclaimed a fast throughout all of Judah. This made all the people gather together to ask for help from the Lord. People from all the cities of Judah came to seek the Lord (II Chronicles 20:3, 4).

Dear children of God, fast and pray as a family and look up to God when you face such problems that are beyond your control. Allot time for you to assemble as a family and pray. When you fast and pray as a family, you will be victorious.

When sorceries and witchcrafts came to attack and ruin a family, the family members fasted and prayed for three days. What is surprising is that a dog and a cat which were their pets also joined them in their fast. When the family members were sitting around and praying, the pets also came near them and lied down. On the third day, God gave the family a big victory and the family received a perfect deliverance.

Similarly, when King Jehoshaphat looked up to God, fasted and prayed, sang and praised Him, God made his enemies fight within themselves and they destroyed one another (II Chronicles 20:22). Dear children of God, look up to God alone. Fast and pray as a family. You will be victorious.

To meditate: “The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge” (Psalm 46:11).
