AUG 20 – ENOCH WHO PLEASED GOD!
“…for before he (Enoch) was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God” (Hebrews 11:5).
Enoch chose pleasing God as the aim of his life. For this, the following were the questions that remained within him. “What should I do to please God? How can I make God happy? How should I live so that my life pleases God?”
Faith is the way which Enoch followed to please God. That is why it has been written as “By faith Enoch” in the verses given above (Hebrews 11:5). One day Enoch held the hand of God with faith. It is God who is the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). That is why a strong faith rose within Enoch who held the hand of God with faith. “This God is my God forever and ever. He will take me before I see my death” was that faith.
It was the faith of Enoch which remained as the reason behind his exaltation. The Scripture says that faith is the victory that has overcome the world (I John 5:4). “The just shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17). It is faith that leads a person towards Salvation (Mathew 9:22, 10:22).
Enoch dwelled with God because of his faith. The hope that ‘God who created the universe will walk with an ordinary man and He is the one to dwell amid men’ itself is great faith. Is it not? Enoch, who dwelled with God in this way attained the love and grace of God through that.
As he went on walking with God, the faith in him grew further and further. What a glorious experience it is for one to meet God face to face and speak to Him! Because of that faith, Enoch was found to be pleasing to God and further, he was taken away so that he did not see death.
If you place perfect faith in God, you will surely be one pleasing to God. God also will witness you. “He is faithful in all my house” (Numbers 12:7) was the witness of God about Moses, “A man after my own heart” (Acts 13:22) about David, “An Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit” (John 1:47) about Nathanael and “There is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil” (Job 1:8) about Job.
Dear children of God, God should witness about you also in the same way. Is it not?
To meditate: “Behold! My Servant whom I uphold, my Elect One in whom my soul delights! I have put my Spirit upon him; he will bring forth justice to the Gentiles” (Isaiah 42:1).
