JULY 19 – UNTURNED….!
“Ephraim has mixed himself among the peoples; Ephraim is a cake unturned” (Hosea 7:8).
Though there were 12 tribes in Israel, while mentioning about Ephraim tribe, God defines it as ‘A cake unturned.’ These words help in evaluating ourselves.
Instead of using the ‘cake’ as the example, let us use the ‘Dosa for the purpose.’ While preparing Dosa, the batter is being spread on the griddle after wiping it with oil. With the heat from the stove below, it gets cooked on one side. Then the dosa is being turned on the griddle. Then it gets roasted on both sides correctly and tastes good. If it had not been turned on the griddle, one side of the dosa might have remained uncooked.
There are two parts to Spiritual life. One part is what God does for us and the other part is what we have to do for God. Some people will keep on asking God what He has to do for them. They will ask for blessings, wisdom, deliverance and divine healing. God is powerful to give all those things.
At the same time, they will forget the responsibility which they have to fulfil for God. One should love God; give God; live as the children of God; obey all the commandments of God. But these people will not give due importance to all these things. These are the people who remain the unturned cakes.
Look at King Solomon. When he sought wisdom from God, God gave him wisdom but along with it He also gave wealth, glory and authority which Solomon had not even asked for. But Solomon was the one to build a high place, offer sacrifice to other gods and saddened God. Thus, Solomon is an unturned cake.
At the same time, there is a mention in the Scripture about another cake. “….a loaf of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian; it came to a tent and struck it so that it fell and overturned, and the tent collapsed” (Judges 7:13). A loaf of barley bread was powerful to overturn the Midian tent. The reason is that it was a cake boiled on both sides.
On one side, you should be filled with the Holy Spirit. On the other side, you should be filled with the fire of God. To make you holy, God gives you the anointment of the Holy Spirit. He gives you the anointment of fire to enable you to break the forts of the enemies. Dear children of God, you should not be an unturned cake but should be one cooked on both sides. Only then you could break the power of the enemy and become victorious.
To meditate: “I am the living bread …..If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever” (John 6:51).
