Dec 05 – Three Things!

“You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great” (Psalm 18:35).

Take a moment to reflect deeply on this verse. We see the word “Your” repeated three times – Your shield of salvation, Your right hand, Your gentleness. Let us meditate briefly on these three divine blessings.

  1. Your Shield of Salvation

Scripture says, “He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him” (Proverbs 30:5).

Think of what a shield does – it provides protection. When Satan fires his fiery darts at us, or when wicked people attempt to harm us through evil schemes or sorceries, the Lord Himself becomes our shield.

The fire of judgment that should have fallen upon us was borne by Jesus Christ on the Cross. On the battlefield, the enemy shoots poisoned arrows and throws spears. But the warrior who holds up his shield stands safe. Dear child of God, the Lord Himself is your shield.

  1. Your Right Hand

Now look at the hand of the Lord. The Bible describes it as an “outstretched arm” and a “mighty hand.” Our loving God protects us within His everlasting arms.

Moses said, “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deuteronomy 33:27), committing the people of Israel into those strong hands.

The hands of God never fail. They are the hands that keep our feet from slipping (1 Samuel 2:9) and the hands that carry us even into our old age (Isaiah 46:4). If the Lord’s hand is upon you, you are safe and secure.

  1. Your Gentleness (Mercy)

David rejoiced saying, “Your gentleness has made me great” (Psalm 18:35).

We do not become great through our own strength or righteousness but through the Lord’s mercy. It was by His lovingkindness that He drew us to Himself (Jeremiah 31:3). It was by His divine power and grace that He called us (2 Peter 1:3). And by the shield of His favour, He surrounds and protects us (Psalm 5:12).

Dear child of God, may the protecting hand and the gracious mercy of the Lord always remain upon you. Then you will indeed be made great in His sight.

Verse for further meditation: “For how great is His goodness and how great its beauty! Grain shall make the young men thrive, and new wine the young women” (Zechariah 9:17).
