Dec 04 – He Knows the Way!

“But He knows the way that I take” (Job 23:10).

The path of Job, the man of God, was one that no one could fully understand. His wife reproached him and abandoned him. His friends, instead of comforting him, added to his pain with their harsh words disguised as counsel. Yet, in the midst of all his afflictions, Job uttered these remarkable words: “But the Lord knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.”

Yes, the Lord surely knows the path of your affliction and pain.

When God spoke to Moses, He said, “I have surely seen the oppression of My people… and have known their sorrows” (Exodus 3:7). Because we are His people, His own possession, He knows every detail of our lives. Just as He delivered the Israelites from the bondage of Egypt, He will deliver us from every form of captivity and distress.

The psalmist, too, expressed the same confidence in God’s awareness of his path, even while lamenting: “My wounds are foul and festering because of my foolishness. I am troubled, I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long” (Psalm 38:5-6). The Lord who knew all of David’s struggles prepared a table before him in the presence of his enemies and anointed him with the oil of His Holy Spirit.

There is a remarkable incident from the life of George Washington, the founder of the United States. During a civil conflict, he was being pursued by enemies who were intent on capturing him. Mounted soldiers chased him with rifles, while he fled on foot through the night. Soon he reached a river. It was midwinter, and the river was full of freezing cold water. Getting into it meant certain death by freezing.

Kneeling on the riverbank, Washington prayed earnestly for strength to cross. Then, without hesitation, he leaped into the icy water and began to swim with all his might, praying fervently as he went. The power of God sustained him – and the icy waters did not harm him. He reached the other side safely and continued running. When his pursuers arrived at the riverbank, none of them dared to enter the frozen water. They stopped there, unable to follow.

The same Lord who knew George Washington’s desperate situation and delivered him, is fully aware of every trouble you face today. He has the power to give you victory even in the midst of your trials.

Verse for further meditation: “And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know. But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him” (1 Corinthians 8:2-3).
