The One Who Prays—and the One Who Hears Prayer!

“O You who hear prayer, to You all flesh will come.” (Psalm 65:2)

Our Lord has many names. Among them is a beautiful and tender name—“The One who hears prayer.” Not only does He hear prayer, He also answers prayer!

Look at the promises God has given regarding answered prayer:

  • “He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honour him.” (Psalm 91:15)
  • “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way you should go.” (Isaiah 48:17)
  • “Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’” (Isaiah 58:9)
  • “Before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear.” (Isaiah 65:24)
  • “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3)

How wonderful it is to reflect that the One who hears prayer is also the One who prays! When Christ lived on this earth, He showed us by example how to pray. He left behind footprints for us to follow (1 Peter 2:21).

To those who come to Him with longing and thirst for prayer, the Lord pours out the Spirit of grace and supplication (Zechariah 12:10). The Holy Spirit then joins with them in deep intercession through groanings too deep for words (Romans 8:26).

Every time you kneel down, may your ears hear the gentle call of Jesus: “Pray with Me.” You may grow weary when you pray alone. But when you pray together with Christ, your prayer becomes powerful.

The Lord said: “Could you not watch with Me one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:40–41)

Dear child of God, if your life is to be transformed, and if you are to become a powerful warrior in prayer, look to Jesus. He is our supreme example in both prayer and fasting.

Verse for further meditation: “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)
