Feb 15 – Blessed!
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord.” (Jeremiah 17:7)
When we place our trust in the Lord, He delights in us and blesses us abundantly. If we do not trust Him, is it only natural that His heart would be grieved. When those who have tasted the Lord, and those who have experienced His goodness, turn their confidence away from Him and place it in man, will not His heart be troubled?
The Bible says: “Thus says the Lord: ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the Lord.’” (Jeremiah 17:5)
In those days, all the Philistines placed their confidence in the giant Goliath. He was a man of extraordinary stature, a mighty warrior from Gath. His appearance, his physical strength, and his weapons of war made him seem terrifying. The entire nation of Israel trembled before him, believing that there was no one among them who could stand against him.
But then a young Jewish shepherd boy appeared. He had no experience in battle. He carried no impressive weapons. Yet he placed his complete trust in the Lord and made the Lord alone his confidence. That young man was David!
Standing before the giant warrior Goliath, David declared: “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” (1 Samuel 17:45) And in the name of the Lord, David won a glorious victory.
Always place your trust in the Lord. Do not put your confidence in man. What is man, whose breath is in his nostrils, that he should be trusted? Likewise, do not set your heart on riches or wealth.
There was once a man who placed his trust in riches and said to his own soul, “Take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.” But God said to him: “Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?” (Luke 12:19–20)
The Word of God declares: “Blessed is that man who makes the Lord his trust, and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.” (Psalm 40:4)
For God is faithful. He does not change. He does not lie. Children of God, those of you who place your trust in the Lord are truly blessed.
Verse for further meditation: “Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” (Psalm 37:5)
