Feb 14 – He Accepts!
“He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” (Matthew 8:17)
When we look at our beloved Lord, who willingly and joyfully accepts our weaknesses and sicknesses, our hearts overflow with unspeakable joy. Our eyes fill with tears of gratitude. Who else loves us the way He does? Truly, He accepted our weaknesses without hesitation and bore all our sicknesses upon Himself on the cross.
Look at the ways of the world. Is there anyone who willingly accepts another person’s weaknesses? When there is wealth, there are many to come by your side to share it. When there is joy, honour, success, or fame, many are eager to partake in it. But when it comes to sharing pain, tears, sickness, and suffering, hardly anyone is willing. This is the true state of the world.
Consider a child afflicted with a severe illness. The father cannot take that sickness upon himself or carry it in place of the child. At best, he can call a doctor. When the child writhes in pain, all he can do is plead with the doctor for medicine to ease the suffering. He may cry helplessly, “I cannot bear to see my child suffer like this.”
Look at the condition of Job. After losing his children and all his possessions, his entire body was afflicted with painful sores. At that moment of deep agony, even his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!” (Job 2:9).
There may be moments in your life when no one is left to comfort you. You may feel utterly alone in your sorrow. But never forget this truth: there is One who loves you deeply—Jesus Christ. For our sake, He willingly allowed His entire body to be scourged. He accepted wounds and scars upon Himself. The Word of God declares that by His stripes we are healed. His wounds and scars stand as eternal testimony that He carried our sicknesses and bore our diseases.
The Bible says: “Lord Jesus, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by His stripes you were healed” (1 Peter 2:23-24)
Beloved children of God, since He has already borne all these things on your behalf and finished the work completely, why should you still languish in sorrow? Lift your eyes and look to the cross of Calvary. There you will find comfort. There you will find deliverance.
Verse for further meditation: “Therefore I ask that you do not lose heart at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.” (Ephesians 3:13)
