Feb 06 – New Mercies Every Morning!

“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning.” (Lamentations 3:22–23)

Those who rise early and spend time in personal prayer receive new mercies every morning. Yes, it is only because of the Lord’s mercy that we are not consumed. His compassions never fail. The mercies of the Lord are new every morning.

In the days of the Old Testament, the Lord caused manna to fall each morning in the camp of the Israelites. Fresh manna was given every single day. The manna from the previous day could not be used the next day—it would spoil within a day.

Because it melted in the heat, it could not be gathered after the sun grew hot. One family could not gather up extra for another family. The Lord provided exactly the amount of manna needed for each household. That manna was a picture of God’s grace.

Children of God, ask daily in your personal prayer time that God’s fresh grace would surround you. When you do so, the compassionate Lord will fulfill His promise in your life: “Though the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, My kindness shall not depart from you” (Isaiah 54:10).

What kind of grace does the Lord give us? It is grace that never leaves us. When God saw David, who continually sought Him in prayer, He promised, “David, I will not remove My grace from your son Solomon, as I removed My grace from Saul,.” “I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men. But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you.” (2 Samuel 7:14–16)

Though Solomon turned away from the Lord and strayed from God’s ways many times, the Lord graciously showed mercy to him. David’s prayers brought grace upon David’s son. Your personal prayers do not bring grace only upon you, but also upon your children and your children’s children.

Children of God, Jesus Christ—the Son of David—has shown us grace. Yes, it is perfect divine grace. It is grace that abounds and overflows. It is grace that will never depart from us.

Verse for further meditation: “Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.” (2 Peter 1:1–2)
