Feb 05 – Counsel!
“Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand. You will guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.” (Psalm 73:23–24)
Do you know why personal prayer is so essential for us? It is during times of private prayer that we receive the counsel of God. He keeps His eyes upon us and lovingly gives us direction.
The Bible declares that our Lord is called Counselor (Isaiah 9:6), that He is wonderful in counsel (Isaiah 28:29), and that the counsel of the Lord stands forever (Psalm 33:11).
Children of God, set apart time to receive the counsel of the Lord. When you finish praying, wait quietly for the gentle voice of the Lord. Has He not promised to counsel you? The Scriptures say, “Where there is no counsel, the people fall” (Proverbs 11:14).
Every day, we are required to make many decisions. Often, we do not know where to go, which path to take, what decision to make, or whom to meet. Even a single wrong step can bring painful consequences.
That is why the Lord has given us the Spirit who imparts counsel. The Bible says: “The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might,
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.” (Isaiah 11:2)
Not only that—the Holy Spirit knows everything, even the deep things of God. Scripture says: “But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:10)
God reveals His counsel to us through His Spirit.
Moses led nearly two million people from Egypt to the land of Canaan through the wilderness. Every single day, God instructed him where to camp, when to move, how to proceed, and how to meet the needs of the people.
Because Moses listened to the counsel of the Lord, God guided him perfectly—through the pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire (Deuteronomy 1:32–33). He enabled him to witness mighty wonders.
Children of God, listen for the counsel of the Lord in your personal prayer time. He will surely guide you and lead you in the right way.
Verse for further meditation: “I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel; my heart also instructs me in the night seasons.” (Psalm 16:7)
