Feb 16 – The Assembly of the Church!
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another.” (Hebrews 10:25)
Gathering together as the church is extremely important in the Christian life. When the church assembles, we encounter the Lord there. We sing praises to Him, worship Him, and rejoice in the sweet fellowship of the brethren. Above all, the Lord Himself speaks with us.
King David declares: “For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” (Psalm 84:10). David was a great king, yet the place his heart longed for was not his palace or royal comforts, but the threshold of the house of the Lord.
When we are invited, “Come, let us go to the house of the Lord,” let us go with joy and firm determination! Let us meditate briefly on three people who received blessings when they came to God’s house—blessings that you too can receive.
- Hannah, who poured out her heart: Read 1 Samuel 1:15. Hannah ran to the house of the Lord and poured out all the burdens of her heart at His feet. Yes, the temple was the place she chose to unload her grief and sorrow. It is the house of the living God—a place where one can speak openly with God, a place to pour out pains that cannot be shared with people, and receive comfort from the Lord.
When Hannah poured out her heart before the Lord, He removed her burden and granted her a son.
- Simeon, who departed in peace: The Bible records Simeon’s words: “So he took Him up in his arms and blessed God and said: ‘Lord, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word.’” (Luke 2:28–29)
Simeon came to the temple of God and held Jesus in his arms. His heart was filled with peace. In the same way, when we come to the house of the Lord, we behold Christ. A true peace—one that the world cannot give or take away—fills our hearts completely.
- The man who received a miracle: The Bible says: “Now it happened on another Sabbath, also, that He entered the synagogue and taught. And a man was there whose right hand was withered.” (Luke 6:6)
This man came to the house of God with a withered hand. But when he left, he went away having received a miracle.
Children of God, in the house of the Lord there is deliverance, peace, miracles, and wonders. You too are invited to partake of these blessings found in God’s house.
Verse for further meditation: “Blessed is the man You choose, and cause to approach You, that he may dwell in Your courts; we shall be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Of Your holy temple.” (Psalm 65:4)
