Jan 26 – My Heart Was Awake!

“I sleep, but my heart is awake; it is the voice of my beloved! He knocks…” (Song of Solomon 5:2)

Stay awake and pray; and pray so that you may stay awake. Surely the Lord will give a spiritual alertness to your soul. All your inner senses must burn with a longing that says, “I must pray… I must pray.” When you see something wrong in your family, or when painful situations surround you, you must run earnestly to the feet of the Lord and pour out your heart in prayer.

Look at the touch-me-not plant. It is so sensitive that even a slight touch causes it to fold itself. In the same way, Prophet Isaiah had a sensitive and alert praying spirit. When King Uzziah died, he immediately ran to the temple to pray and wait in God’s presence. As a result, he received a heavenly vision.

When Scripture says “stay awake and pray,” it does not mean you should never sleep. Man needs sleep. After a long day of labour, God has given the night for rest. But your spirit must have alertness. You must have the experience: “I sleep, but my heart is awake.”

Only a spiritually awakened heart can hear the Beloved knocking. He desires to share something important with you—to reveal insights, visions, or divine secrets. Keep your inner man sensitive to hear His voice.

When you sleep, others may plan evil against you without your knowledge. They may even attempt sorcery or witchcraft. Though you may not know it, the Holy Spirit knows. He neither slumbers nor sleeps. He will stir your inner being with an alertness that wakes you up to pray with burden.

When you rise and pray with spiritual intensity, the Lord will break every power of darkness and give you victory over every scheme of the enemy. For it is written: “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is from Me,” says the LORD. (Isaiah 54:17)

Children of God, sharpen your spiritual ears so that you may hear the voice of your Beloved. When you keep watch in prayer at night, you will not fear: the terror by night, the arrow that flies by day, the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor the destruction that lays waste at noonday (Psalm 91:5–6).

Verse for further meditation: “No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.” (Psalm 91:10)
