Jan 24 – My Heart!
“You have ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse.” (Song of Solomon 4:9)
When we sit in the presence of the Lord with longing, He looks at us and lovingly calls, “My beloved!”. In the Song of Solomon, the Bridegroom addresses His bride with many tender expressions. He calls His beloved and says, “How fair and how pleasant you are, O love, with your delights!” (Song of Solomon 7:6).
Let the very purpose of your life be to delight yourself in God, and for God to delight in you. Let your thoughts, your gaze, your actions—all that concerns you—bring joy to His heart. And as you walk closely with Christ, filled with His love and leaning on Him all the days of your life, the Lord will bless you for generations to come.
The psalmist says, “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4). Because he delighted in God, he could also say, “I will delight myself in Your statutes” (Psalm 119:16), “Your law is my delight” (Psalm 119:77), and “Your commandments are my delight” (Psalm 119:143). Solomon writes, “A merry heart does good, like medicine” (Proverbs 17:22), and “A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance” (Proverbs 15:13).
Not only must you delight in the Lord—you must also seek to please Him always. You must guard your heart from loving the world or the things of the world. Scripture teaches that “friendship with the world is enmity with God” (James 4:4).
If you continue to live in worldly desires, worldly lifestyles, and worldly pleasures, you cannot bring joy to the Lord in the least measure. The Bible says, “Do not love the world or the things in the world.” (1 John 2:15). Make a firm decision: “I will crucify the world and its desires, and choose to love Christ alone.” (Galatians 5:24)
Each day, whenever you find time, examine yourself before God. Ask: “Has anything entered my life that displeases Him? Is there anything in my life that grieves His heart?” If so, correct it immediately. Then the Lord will surely rejoice over you.
Let your heart not only delight in the Heavenly Bridegroom, but let it overflow with love when you remember Him. The bride testifies, “My heart yearned for him.” (Song of Solomon 5:4).
Children of God, let your heart overflow whenever you remember the mercies of Calvary. “My heart is overflowing with a good theme.” (Psalm 45:1)
Verse for further meditation: “In Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11)
