Jun 30 – HE IS AS THE BANNER OF VICTORY !
“And his banner over me was love” (Song of Solomon 2:4).
Every nation has its own flag. While designing the flag, the leaders of the nation come together and set its colours and symbols with a purpose and a reason. Each colour in it has its own meaning; and every symbol is there for a reason.
For example, look at the Indian national flag. The red colour on it reminds us of the blood shed by the martyrs who fought for the independence of our country. The white colour shows that our nation’s love for peace. Green colour shows that our nation will be fertile and prosperous. The wheel in the middle reminds us of Ashoka’s symbol.
When there is a war between two nations, the nation that conquers will hoist its flag in the capital of the conquered nation. Tenzing Norgay set foot on the summit of Mount Everest, he hoisted the flag of our nation there. Neil Armstrong, an American astronaut was the first person to land on the moon, and he put up the American national flag on the moon.
As children of God, we have a flag, that is the flag of the Cross of Calvary. It is in Calvary, that our Lord Jesus Christ triumphed over the world, the flesh, and the devil. Both in the Old Testament and in the New Testament, the Lord is the banner of victory for the children of God. He is our Jehovah Nissi.
He stands as the banner of victory that destroys the armies of enemies. The Lord of hosts is with us. The God of Jacob is our highest refuge. Always be mindful that the Lord God goes ahead of you as the banner of victory, to grant you victory.
The Egyptians were the first to create a flag for the nation. People follow the flag, when it is tied to a pole and lifted up. Every commander of the army will have a flag of unique colour. And soldiers of that batallion will advance toward the enemy camps and battle against them.
Calvary is the flag given unto us. What does the flag represent? It shows us God’s love and affection. The Shulamite woman rejoices and says, “And his banner over me was love” (Song of Solomon 2:4). In the flag of Calvary, we also see unbounded love, affection and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, for us.
We can see white and red in that Calvary flag. ‘White’ represents Christ’s holiness in His sufferings, and ‘Red’ represents His sacrificial blood.
The Scripture says, “My beloved is white and ruddy, chief among ten thousand” (Song of Solomon 5:10). Children of God, look unto that flag of Calvary.
Verse for further meditation: “We will rejoice in your salvation, and in the name of our God we will set up our banners” (Psalm 20:5).
