Nov 29 – WAIST-DEEP EXPERIENCE !
“Again, he measured one thousand and brought me through; the water came up to my waist” (Ezekiel 47:4).
Waist-deep experience refers to girding your waist; and humbling yourselves to serve others. It refers to whole-hearted service with humility. Our Lord Jesus also commanded that your waist be girded and your lamps burning (Luke 12:35). You should gird your waist and always be ready to serve others.
I have observed some fish-vendors in the village. They will have all the fish stacked in two baskets; will tie up those baskets at either end of a pole; will carry the entire load on their shoulders, and walk at a great speed for nearly fifteen to twenty miles, to reach their destination. But before they lift the heavy load, they will tie a towel tightly around their waist. Once they have done it, they will hold their breath and lift the heavy load on their shoulders and start walking.
The act of girding their waists; shows their firm resolution and determination. It is symbolic of their determination that they will not reduce their speed nor put down their loads, until they reach their destination.
Apostle Paul also girded his waist for ministering to the Lord. He says; “But one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14).
Our Lord Jesus came down to earth in order to serve and minister. And He expects you to join Him, in releasing souls from the grip of hades and from the power of sin. Therefore, move forward from your ankle-deep and knee-deep experiences and get into waist-deep experience with a firm resolution and commitment. Commit yourselves to do His ministry with all your strength. In order to enter into waist-deep waters, you should gird your waist, with a firm commitment. Apostle Paul says; “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness” (Ephesians 6:14).
We can read about a heartening event in the ministry of Jesus in the Book of John. “After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded” (John 13:5). Meditate on the extent the King of Glory humbled Himself to the level of a servant. Children of God, let your heart be touched by the loving sacrifice of our Lord.
Verse for further meditation: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor” (Luke 4:18).
