Nov 10 – SOURCE OF THE RIVER !
“And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb” (Revelation 22:1).
There is a point of origin or the source for every river. It starts from a particular source, joined by many tributaries in its course and gains momentum as a river. Those who want to know more about a river, will check out about its source.
There is a great difference between the rivers of this world and the river of Eden. In general, in the course of a river, it is joined by many tributaries and rivers, and turns into a major river. But it was not the case with the river of Eden. The river went out of Eden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads and flowed in four different directions. The source of the river of Eden is not mentioned in the Book of Genesis.
River Tamirabarani; which flows in Tirunelveli district has its source in Mount Podhigai. The major rivers of India; namely Sind, Ganges and Brahmaputra have their source in Lake Manasarovar in the Himalayas. Generally, the rivers originate from mountain tops, flow down the slopes and into the ocean.
The famed Niagara Falls is situated in the international border between Canada and United States of America. The waters fall at a fierce speed all through the day, with even big rocks of ice falling down in the winter. It is one of the widest water falls in the world and it originates from a region with five massive lakes, which never go dry. They are the source for Niagara Falls which nourishes and enriches both Canada and the United States.
Our Lord Jesus also was inflicted with five wounds on His body. And from these five wounds, spring up the fountain of life – the blood of Christ. The blood of the Lamb who was slain before the foundation of the world, is like a perennial river that satisfies the spiritual thirst of those who believe, brings down the water of life, and nourishes the spiritual life. And it will never dry up.
Now what is the source or the point of origin of this river? This great mystery is revealed by the Lord to His loving disciple John, in the first verse of the last chapter of the Book of Revelation. Indeed, this river proceeded from the throne of God and of the Lamb (Revelation 22:1).
Children of God, this river which originates from the throne of the Lamb, in heavenly Mount Zion; flows into your heart today. It flows down to cleanse you from your sins, to purify and to make you holy. This river will nourish and enrich your lives.
Verse for further meditation: “He also brought streams out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers” (Psalm 78:16).
