Mar 22 – LOOK TOWARD HEAVEN !
“Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be” (Genesis 15:5).
The saints of God look toward heaven, and see the God beyond the heavens, His eternal kingdom and His heavenly glory. Their names are written in the book of life in heaven. God the Father is there in His throne. And our Lord Jesus Christ is seated at His right hand. There are eternal inheritances that are in store for us. But the people of this world, live and die with only the present world in mind.
There was once a boy who was flying a kite from the terrace of his house. There were no parapet walls for the terrace. While the eyes of that boy were completely fixated on the kite, he was completely oblivious of the deep well at one side of the building. In the same manner, people give their full attention to the world and on worldly things and forget about matters that are really important. And because of that, they lose out on the divine peace, blessings of God and eternal life, and slip away into endless pit.
When Abraham looked unto heaven, he was able to see millions of stars in the sky with his physical eyes. And later when the Lord promised that so will be his descendants, he believed it. And when he was able to see thousands of children. He was thus able to see the millions of descendants that God will give him, from many tribes and nations, and praised God.
He was also able to see Lord Jesus Christ, as the morning star and brightest among all, as a descendant in His own lineage. He was able to see him and his descendants serving the Lord in eternity in heaven. The Scripture says: “A posterity shall serve Him. It will be recounted of the Lord to the next generation” (Psalm 22:30).
Children of God, you are the children of Abraham, descendants of faith and true worshippers of the Lord. Through Abraham, you are also partakers of that great blessing. Therefore, look unto heaven with your eyes of faith. Psalmist David says: “I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth” (Psalm 121:1-2).
Verse for further meditation: “Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him” (John 17:1-2).
