Feb 09 – LAMP !
“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path” (Psalm 119: 105).
Having a lamp is essential for you to ensure that your feet do not slip and that you do not slide from your path. Many times, darkness surrounds you and you may have to go through the valley of shadow of death. At those times, having a lamp is indispensable. The Word of God is that lamp in the path of your life.
You may have seen the advertisement for Eveready torch lights. In that advertisement, the light from the torch reveals a snake waiting to attack from the darkness. What would have happened to that person, if he did not have the torch with him? He would have died succumbing to the snake bite.
Satan is more dreadful than a cobra. But when you have the Word of God, as the lamp to your feet, you can easily identify the Satan lurking in the darkness waiting to attack you. With the light from the lamp, you can clearly discern what kind of enemies are there on the way, what dangers are lurking in the darkness and what is the right path to pursue. Through such discernment, you can escape from all the snares of the devil and progress joyfully on the path to heaven.
God, who has given the lamp, indicates to you the right direction and guides your feet in the right path. He instructs you to walk according to His will. When you walk in the path of God, you will never lose your direction. The word of God, will wonderfully lead you in His path. Some people instead of reading the Bible in a disciplined manner, try to rely on the verse that first meets their eye when they open the Bible.
There is an old story about a person who wanted to know the will of God in his life. He closed his eyes, opened his Bible and touched a verse in a random manner. There it was written that Judas hanged himself (Mathew 27: 5). The fellow was taken aback and tried again. And this time around he touched the verse that said: “Go and do likewise” (Luke 10: 37). He was completely shattered and wanted to try one last time. And he came across the verse which said: “What you do, do quickly” (John 13: 27). While this is a humorous story, this will be the plight of those who try to know God’s will in their lives, through such blind methods.
Children of God, read the word of God with all the longing of your heart, and with full attention and meditation. Then the Lord will speak to you in a gentle voice. And you will have the light of His lamp on your path of life.
Verse for further meditation: “And so, we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts” (2 Peter 1: 19).
