Jan 03 – New Path!

“let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save [a]a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins”(James 5:20)

In this verse, the Lord talks about those who pursue the wrong path. Those who take the wrong path will finally end up in a deep pit. It is not just enough that we experience the new gospel life, with a new heart, new spirit and new song. We should also make all possible efforts to reach out to those who have taken the wrong path and bring them back to Jesus, talk to them about the new gospel, and help renew their life.

When you look at the life of David, he was so consumed with his lust, and lost all his senses, and went astray. He lusted the wife of another man, and even killed that man, in order to take her and committed adultery. He would have met with a pathetic end, if he had continued in the same way. But Prophet Nathan did not want to leave in such a state. So, when David was alone, he tactfully narrated a parable and through that made him understand his sinful state, admonished and brought him back to his senses.

The psalm that David wrote after that event, acts as a guiding lamp, even today, to many who had gone astray. It helps them to get back to the Lord with a broken heart and a contrite spirit. This also assures that if we return to the Lord, He is gracious and merciful to forgive all our sins and grant us a new life.

There was once a woman, who was happily married with two children, fell into sin and cheated her husband. When the husband came to know about her extra marital affair, she decided to commit suicide by consuming large dose of sleeping tablets. Even at that point, the Lord had compassion on her and sent one of His servants to go and talk lovingly to that woman. That woman, repented of her ways, confessed her sins and turned back to the Lord. The Lord also made her husband accept her graciously. From that day onwards, her life changed into one of joy and peace.

Children of God, in all the circumstances of our life, God loves us unconditionally. He is so very eager to grant a new life to those who tearfully repent of their sins and return to Him. He will be merciful and fill you with new graces. He will take hold of the hands of those who return to Him with tears, and lead them in the new way.

Verse for further meditation: “But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life” (Romans 6:22)
