Dec 05 – GOD’S PROTECTION !

“Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.” (Psalm 91:6)

Every verse of Psalm 91 reveals the importance of God’s protection in our life. These verses show the kind of compassion with which He hides you and protects you under His wings. Therefore, pray to the Lord to preserve you as the apple of His eye.

In verses 5 and 6 of Psalm 91, the Psalmist talks about the night and the day. He talks about the terror and pestilence in the night, flying arrows by day and the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

It is God who created the day and the night. “God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.  So, the evening and the morning were the first day” (Genesis 1:5). And He is the God of the day and of the night. He created the day for you to work and make a living. And the night He created for you to rest and be rejuvenated. He preserves you from the destruction of the noonday, and from the flying arrows. And in the night, He preserves you from terror and pestilence. In the daytime, He provides you the light from the sun, and He created light from the moon and the stars for the night time. But there is something that the children of God should be busy with all through the day and night – which is to meditate on His word. “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law, he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:2)

Jacob, who wanted to elevation in his life, worked tirelessly day and night. He toiled hard for the sake of his wives, for his community and to protect his herd. While recounting his experience, he recalls: “There I was! In the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night, and my sleep departed from my eyes” (Genesis 31:40). But the Lord God granted good health and healing to Jacob, and helped him return to his father’s house. That same Lord will also protect you and help you.

When Joshua was in the battlefield, there was sunset and the whole area was getting dark. But Joshua, who stood with God, boldly command the sun and the moon to stand still. “Sun, stand still over Gibeon; And moon in the valley of Aijalon.”. So, the sun and the moon stopped, till the people had revenge upon their enemies.” (Joshua 10:13). Thus, God granted a huge victory to His people.

Yes, Indeed our God is the Lord of the day and of the night. He is the one who created sun and the moon. Therefore, as the children of God, there is no need for you to fear or be terrified about any danger or terror.

Verse for further meditation: “When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.” (Proverbs 3:24)
