Nov 12 – IN THE DAYS OF FLESH !
“Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same…” (Hebrews 2:14)
We are made of flesh and blood. But the Lord is Spiritual being. While we are made of flesh and blood, God does not have a physical body. But for our sakes, He who is in the form of Spirit, willed to take the form of human being in flesh and blood. He came into this world, as Christ Jesus.
There is a story of a little boy, who noticed a tiny ant in danger and placed his hand in front of the ant, to save it from the disaster. But the ant was unmindful of this and kept on moving toward the danger. The boy started telling the ant to stop in a loud voice. But the ant did not have the capacity to understand that. How else can he save that ant from imminent danger? The only way he could probably do is to become an ant himself and make the other ant understand the grave situation. Well, this is exactly what our Lord Jesus did for all of mankind.
Our Heavenly God observed how humans are moving rapidly toward hades and into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched. He purposed in His heart to turn them toward Him, and took the form of man, in flesh and blood. Our God, who came down to earth in flesh, offered up his body to be torn for the sins of mankind. He poured out even the last drop of His precious blood on the Cross of Calvary. And through that blood, he washed us clean from the stain of sin and crushed the head of Satan.
There are many references in the Scripture about the physical body of Christ Jesus. It says that in the days of His flesh, he offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears (Hebrews 5:7).
We may have heard many people say that they get sleepy the moment they sit down to pray. And they excuse their inability to pray and say that the flesh is weak. Our Lord had a clear foreknowledge of such lame excuses that we may offer, and disproved it by overcoming His weakness in the days of His flesh, and offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears. Our God, who was able to pray in that manner, is able to help you in your weakness. And you cannot come out with lame excuses for lack of prayer.
The Scripture tells us: “Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered” (Romans 8:26). Dear children of God, Christ Jesus, who came down from heaven in the form of human, is the best example you can have for fervent prayer life. And He is mighty to grant you victory.
Verse for further meditation: And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. (Galatians 5:24)
