Oct 31 – A KINGDOM IN POWER!
“For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power” (I Corinthians 4:20).
There cannot be a person who is not knowing Charles Spurgeon, a servant of God. His sermons were the most powerful ones. Once, a person asked him the reason behind his power, talent in effective preaching and the divigfne power he had. In response, Charles Spurgeon took him around his office. In the end, he took the person to a particular room and told, “This room is the one to give me power and divine strength.”
With the thinking, how a room could provide such great power, the person looked into it. He saw around forty to fifty persons on their knees, praying with tears for Charles Spurgeon. They were pleading, “Lord, use your servant powerfully in the Gospel meeting to be convened today. Affirm your Word to the participants through miracles and signs.” Charles Spurgeon told the person, “This is the secret of my power. It is their prayer which makes me a flame of fire.”
There are thousands of religions and doctrines in the world. All of them teach about righteousness and philosophical wisdom. But the greatness of the Christian religion is over the power of God. That is why Paul the Apostle says, “For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power” (I Corinthians 4:20).
Power and strength are needed for you to remain victorious in your spiritual life. Miracles and signs are required to prove that the Lord is God. The power of Resurrection is needed to proclaim that your Redeemer is alive. Before sending His disciples to the ministry, Jesus asked them to wait for the power of the Holy Spirit. “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
The Holy Spirit who filled Jesus Christ with the Spirit and power filled the disciples also in the same way and miracles happened wherever they went. They were able to say firmly that Jesus was Christ. They affirmed the Word of God with miracles and signs. Dear children of God, wait for the power of the Most High so that the Lord anoints you with Spirit and power (Isaiah 40:31).
To meditate: “Behold, I send the Promise of my Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high” (Luke 24:49).
