AUG 18 – DO WHAT PLEASES GOD!

“….finding out what is acceptable to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:10).

Firstly, you have to resolve to do things that please God. Secondly, you have to pray to God to teach you to do only things that please Him. Further, you have to find out what is pleasing to God.

A sister who was saved in her youth stage had immeasurable love for God. She had firmly resolved to do only things that would please God. She attained the right age to get married. Her parents, who had not been saved gave her to a gentile youngster in marriage.

During those early days after marriage, the man invited his wife to go to a cinema. But she did not like the proposal at all. It became a problem to her, who had resolved to do only things that would please God.

So, she entered a room alone and fervently prayed to God. She prayed to God, “God, teach me what is pleasing to you” and received the counsel of God. Then, she happily went to the theatre with her husband.

The movie started. After a few minutes, the man looked at his wife and noticed that she was sitting with closed eyes. After ten minutes, when he slowly turned towards his wife again, she continued to keep her eyes closed and her mouth was whispering ‘Thank you, Jesus.’ After ten more minutes, he again turned towards her and she was speaking in tongue. Being a gentile, he did not know what she was doing.

He feared that something had happened to her and took her out of the theatre. He asked her, “What has happened to you? Why were you not watching the movie happily?” With a smile, she told her husband, “There is a joy which this movie cannot give. That is the joy which Jesus Christ gives.” Saying this, she narrated to her husband the witness of her Salvation.

The witness of his wife touched the man deeply. That day, God saved the husband also. Within a few days, they both together became full-time servants of God. Dear children of God, when you initiate to do things which please God, you will surely gain the gentiles.

To meditate: “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2).
