“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63).
Happiness is the vitality in life, and many families do not have this. In many churches also there is no life. Those who shone for God in those days remain lifeless today without warmth or cool. Why is this lifeless life? It is because not giving space to the life-giving Holy Spirit.
The most prominent among the characteristics of the Holy Spirit is activating life. The Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters when God created the creatures. The earth already created by God was without form and void. The darkness was on the face of the deep (Genesis 1:2). That is why the Holy Spirit was hovering over the waters. Only because of this, all the plants, livestock and birds came into being.
The Holy Spirit had His part in the creation of man also. The Lord God created man from the dust of the earth. Though man was created in the image and likeness of God, there was no life in him. That is why the Lord God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being (Genesis 2:7). Job says, “The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life” (Job 33:4).
How could the families and churches which are lifeless be rekindled with life? Only when the works of the Holy Spirit act powerfully, they could be revived with life. God willed to show this to His prophet Ezekiel. He made him stand in a valley filled with bones. God asked him, “Son of man, can these bones live”? (Ezekiel 37:3). God also indicated the way how those bones could be made alive. God said, “I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you;” (Ezekiel 37:6).
There is no greatness in one when there is no spirit in it. It is a mere body without life. But when commanded, those bones received life and stood firm as a great army. Dear children of God, Will you give space for the Holy Spirit to descend on you and your family members and upon the nation strongly and work?
To meditate: “But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you” (Romans 8:11).
