“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” (III John 1:2).
Many people are able to differentiate between sick and healthy bodies. But, at the same time, they are unable to differentiate between sick and healthy souls. They do not know what the life of a soul is.
Today, while wishing one another, people say, “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers”. But, they do not know, whether that soul is alive, sick or dead.
When people say, ‘as your soul prospers,’ they are not aware that life in the body depends on how the soul is. At times, we have to think about whether wishing a person in this way could also turn into a curse, because the soul in some people is not healthy. In some people, the soul is dead. When such people receive a wish “just as your soul”, they will be subjected to bodily sickness and worldly death.
Love, joy and peace will find a place in a healthy soul. If the praise of God is in the soul, the presence of God will overflow in the body. The Scripture says, “…for the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).
Generally, people say that sorrow should not be stored in the heart. When sorrowful situations arise, the burden should be shared with companions, fall in the presence of God and receive comfort and get consoled. The sorrows, if retained in the heart, will cause heart ailments.
Look at Job, the devotee. A spirit of fear was always functioning within him. Instead of placing the burden on God, he kept on fearing over things and as feared he was afflicted with many sickness. He says, “For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me,……I am not at ease, nor am I quiet; I have no rest, for trouble comes” (Job 3:25, 26). Dear children of God, remove the fear from your soul.
To meditate: “And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease” (Mathew 10:1).
