JUNE 16 – HORSES OF FIRE!

“…behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha” (II Kings 6:17).

Either in protecting His people or in fighting for them, the ways of God are amazing and wonderful. Here, He sends His horses and chariots of fire to protect His servant.

Elisha was one to lead a simple and ordinary life. Only one servant was staying with him. The king of Syria envied Elisha, and therefore, he sent horses and chariots and a great army to capture, and they came by night and surrounded the city (II Kings 6:14). Who will fight for Elisha? Who will protect him from the hands of the king of Syria? The servant of Elisha screamed, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”

Do you know what the response of Elisha was? He said, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Yes, Elisha had the eyes of spirit. With those eyes, he saw the horses and chariots of fire sent by God in his support. Thus, he had no fear in his heart.

Just think of the numerous things that God does in support of you. God says, “For I,’ says the Lord, ‘will be a wall of fire all around her, and I will be the glory in her midst” (Zachariah 2:5). In the books of Joshua, Judges, I Kings and II Kings, we read how God protected His people. These books also show how He struggled, advocated and fought for them.

The Scripture says that when Sisera waged war against the children of Israel, they fought from the heavens and the stars from their courses fought against Sisera (Judges 5:20). Similarly, God sent hornets to chase the Canaanites to protect the Israelites. The hornets came in thousands and stood like warriors. They cast out the Canaanites (Exodus 23:28, Deuteronomy 7:20).

When the children of Israel were chased by the Egyptians, God placed the pillar of fire in between them. It was a cloud and darkness to the Egyptians and at the same time, it gave light by night to the Israelites (Exodus 14:20). Dear children of God, God is one to protect you. He remains as one to have extreme concern over you.

To meditate: “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him” (II Chronicles 16:9).
