“…through faith subdued kingdoms” (Hebrews 11:33).
Faith is a powerful force hidden within you. It turns you victorious when you implement the same with divine power. Do not forget that you have been called to overcome the world. The Scripture says, “And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith” (I John 5:4).
The land of Canaan was ahead of the Israelites. There were two questions before the Israelites: “How to inherit it?” and “How to overcome the thirty-one kingdoms and the seven nations?” The Israelites had no training in battle skills. They were suppressed slaves in Egypt. They were neither in possession of any war weapons. They did not have even the shields of self-defence, cavalry, elephant force or fast-moving chariot force.
All they had was faith alone. Yes. They strongly believed “God promised this land of Canaan to our forefathers. He will surely give it to us.” They had the faith that God has promised to give every place on which the sole of their feet treaded. They fully believed that God would surely give the land of Canaan to them. They had the faith that God who had promised “I will never leave you nor forsake you” would never fail His words.” It was the faith that He will keep up His Words. It is because of this, they were able to march forward with faith and the river Jordan turned back and gave them the way.
The huge walls of Jericho shattered and fell down. Because of the faith, they entered the city of Ai and slaughtered over twelve thousands of soldiers and won. They defeated Adoni-Zedek who was ruling Jerusalem, Hoham who was the king of Hebron, Piram the king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish and Debir king of Eglon.
Through faith, the Israelites won over kingdoms. “Our God is a Mighty winner; He leads our army; Nobody could oppose our Lord; we come in the Name of our Lord; thanks be to God, who gives us the victory.” Their faith gave them the victory.
You are the saints of the New Testament, and you do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Only if you win over the world, flesh and Satan, you could inherit the Heavenly Kingdom which is the land of Heavenly Canaan. Dear children of God, may you win over the power of darkness and become victorious through faith. But deliverance is of the Lord.
To meditate: “Stand therefore….above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one” (Ephesians 6:14, 16).
