“Above all, taking the shield of faith with which, you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one” (Ephesians 6:16).
Stand holding the shield of faith as it provides you protection. It provides refuge. It protects you from the attack of satan’s fiery darts.
Some years ago, there was an agitation by the name ‘Anti Hindi Agitation.’ During that agitation, the students threw stones on the police personnel. The police held a shield-like thing in their hands and were wearing an iron helmet too. The windows of the police vehicles were covered with metal nets so that the personnel inside are protected. Many police personnel might have got injured and the vehicles might have also been damaged if these preventive measures had not been carried out.
You wish to move forward in your spiritual path and Satan is continuing to shoot arrows at you in a non-stop manner to stop you. Some mythical tales of the olden days say that the enemies sent poisonous snakes through their bows instead of the arrows. They imagine that those snakes would leap and bite the enemies.
While mentioning about the bow of satan, Paul the Apostle points it out as “Fiery darts of the wicked one.” When a flaming torch is used in a bow instead of an arrow, it will fly and attack like a fiery ball. What “Fiery darts of the wicked one” denotes is the fire like tests and sufferings. How great it would be if there is a shield with which all these attacks of Satan could be thwarted! Yes. ‘Faith’ is that shield.
Jesus Christ is your shield of faith. Will you hide in Christ when satan attacks you like an arrow from the bow? The enemy could not stand before Jesus Christ as He has won over the devil who is with the power of death through His death (Hebrews 2:14). You should never be afraid of satan. Stand opposing him. Then he will flee from you (James 4:7).
A servant of God was sleeping after coming back from the ministry tiredly. At that time, Satan came and shook his cot. The servant of God woke up at this and saw satan sitting on the other side of the cot. Not showing any fear or anxiety, the servant of God casually said, “Oh, is it you? I thought it is an earthquake.” Saying that he lied on the cot again and continued to sleep. Satan was ashamed at this and he ran away bowing down his head.
Dear children of God, be peaceful and happy as Jesus Christ is with you always.
To meditate: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (II Timothy 1:7).
