Sep – 20 – DONKEY ON WHICH YOU HAVE RIDDEN!

“Then the Lord opened the mouth of the donkey…. the donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden, ever since I became yours, to this day?” (Numbers 22:28, 30).

We find numerous references about donkeys in the Scripture. When Abraham went to the region of Moriah, he had saddled the donkey and had carried things on it (Genesis 22:3). When the sons of Jacob went to Egypt for purchase of grains, they went on a donkey and we come to know that they had laden the grains on the donkey(Genesis 42:26).
But what a great miracle it is, when God made a donkey to open its mouth and speak. He made a big prophet to realise his sin. How God made Simon Peter to realise by making a rooster to crow, similarly He made Balaam the prophet to realise his sin through a donkey.
See, when the donkey saw the angel of the Lord standing on the road with a drawn sword in his hand, it turned off the road down into a field. Without knowing this, Balaam had kept on beating the donkey. Though the donkey wanted to move ahead faithfully it became impossible for it to move further.
There are so many animals and birds around us. During many a time, they feel the movement of God. They feel the guidance of God and obey Him implicitly. But the man is aimlessly moving around like a blind despite having eyes and as a deaf despite having ears.
God opened the eyes of Balaam. He saw the angel of the Lord standing on the road with his sword drawn. So, he bowed low and fell facedown. Your spiritual eyes must be open always. It is also essential that your ears should be open to hearing the will of God. Further, your heart should be fully dedicated to the will of God.
See! How patient was the donkey of the Good Samaritan. With great difficulty, it carried the wounded man. Would the help of the Good Samaritan be holistic if the donkey had not been there? Would that been possible for him to reach the place of the innkeeper?
That donkey carried the load of the master like that of its own. The parents carry the burden of the children. The believers carry the burden of the servants of God. But, has not God carried entire burden on Him? Did He not change Himself into a load bearer? How could this love be forgotten?
To meditate: “Behold, your King is coming to you;He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey,a colt, the foal of a donkey” (Zacharia 9:9)
